A spreadsheet I have rebuilt for clients about forty times since 2011, finally cleaned up and documented so anybody can use it. It answers one question: what did that job actually cost me. Not materials and labour, which everybody tracks. The full number, including your truck and fuel apportioned by job, your insurance and licensing spread across the year's work, your unbillable drive and quoting time, and your own hours at a rate you set rather than whatever is left over. What is in it: a job entry sheet, a rate calculator that works out your real hourly cost including overhead, a per-job margin view, and a year-to-date summary that shows which kinds of work actually make you money. Most people who fill in a year of past jobs discover one job type they have been losing money on the whole time. It is an Excel file that also opens in Google Sheets and LibreOffice.
